About Me

Hello there, my name is Jory and I'm a day trader, former stockbroker, and award-winning intelligence analyst/combat veteran.

My posts are not advice nor recommendations to buy or sell any security. They are intended to show how I view the markets and how I trade them and I hope you can benefit from that knowledge. Please consult with a licensed financial professional to go over any decisions to buy or sell securities because they involve risk and you could lose everything on even a single investment, as I did and discuss below.

I've been investing since 2007. I correctly foresaw The Great Recession of 2008 and decided to focus my first investment on a company that would not only survive the 2008 market crash but also thrive.

I narrowed my investment choices down to Netlfix (around $17 at the time) and Blockbuster (around $5). I made the expert decision to go with the cheapest stock because, well, it was the cheapest, which was Blockbuster. I subsequently went on to lose 98% of that investment within a couple years. What a great introduction to the world of "value investing".

I began to focus on day trading in early 2013. My trading journey continued to struggle until 2016. I went on a 3-year streak of beating the S&P 500 from 2016 to 2018. During this time, I worked briefly at TD Ameritrade as a stockbroker where I finished in the top 20 in the entire company. I also won a trading competition among brokers.

In 2019, I barely underperformed the S&P 500 but still out-performed over 85% of hedge funds that volatile year.

In 2020, I again correctly foresaw the COVID crash in January and made over $500k during the next 2 months, and a further unrealized profit of over $200k trading mostly TSLA and QQQ. However, my ego was inflated to such an absurd degree from these wins that I began to overtrade, change my trading style, and abandon my trading rules that got me here and proceeded to lose most of those profits.

As of 2021, I've gone back to the basics and fully developed my holistic approach to trading the markets, which has a strong emphasis on price action trading as taught by CME Master Instructor, Al Brooks, who has over 30 years of experience in the markets.

In this blog, I plan to post about how I:

  1. Identify and take advantage of what institutions and algos are seeing and doing in the markets.
  2. Apply technical analysis to reveal key turning points and liquidity zones
  3. Develop a unique trade strategy and plan for entry criteria, stop placement, target locations, and reversal signals
  4. Manage risk with position sizing and effective stop placement
  5. Lock in profits and reduce risk with dynamic trade management
  6. Review trade execution, backtest, journal, and set goals for tomorrow

What is a Furu?

A 'furu' is a newbie or charlatan masquerading as a guru on Twitter or other social media.

A 'guru' is a true professional and champion of his or her craft.

Why did I name my blog Furu to Guru (F2G)?

I wanted to blog about my journey from a new trader (a furu) to a great trader (a guru). Studies show talking about/writing down what you learn and/or teaching it to other people significantly reduces the learning curve.

Thanks for stopping by!
